The relationship with Serbia has played an important role in the growth of the Cyprus economy and we foresee stronger ties and collaboration among the two countries, President of the Republic Demetris Christofias said on Tuesday.

Addressing the “Cyprus-Serbia Business Forum“ which took place in Nicosia, on the occasion of the official visit of the Serbian Prime Minister to Cyprus, President underlined that as an EU and Euro-zone member and an international and regional business and financial centre, Cyprus can cater to the needs of Serbian businesses wishing to expand into the EU and globally.

“The benefits and opportunities that Cyprus offers to the global business and investment community are tangible and substantial, making our economy reliable and our country a distinguished centre for business, banking and financial services and shipping“, he added.

He also said that the “Cyprus-Serbia Business Forum“ gives the opportunity for further expansion and transformation of the framework of business, trade, development and co-operation and offers insight as to how Cyprus is positioned to be a true international business and financial services centre that countries like Serbia can utilise to reach their potential and enter new markets like the European Union and the Middle East“.

President of the Republic referred to the “close, excellent and friendly relations between Cyprus and Serbia, noting that “our vision is for an even stronger presence of Serbian businesses and investments in Cyprus within the next years“.

Cyprus, joined the EU in May 2004 and the Eurozone in January 2008.
