The newly elected members of the House of Representatives will hold their first plenary session Thursday, give the prescribed affirmation and elect the House President.

The 56 MPs and the three Representatives of the religious groups represented at the House (Armenians, Maronites and Latins) will affirm their faith and respect to the Constitution and the laws of the Republic and the preservation of the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus.

The plenary agenda includes the election of a new House President. So far two MPs, Democratic Party (DIKO) President Marios Garoyian is seeking reelection to the post and Socialist EDEK President Yiannakis Omirou is also a candidate for the same post.

House Secretary General Socrates Socratous told CNA today that the eldest of MPs, Democratic Rally party (DISY) President Nicos Anastasiades will preside over the plenary.

Parliamentary elections took place on Sunday May 22nd in which DISY received 34.27% electing 20 MPs, AKEL 32.67% electing 19 MPs, DIKO 15.77% electing 9 MPs, EDEK 8.93% electing 5 MPs, EVROKO 3.88% electing 2 MPs and the FOTO
