Cyprus President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglou will meet on Tuesday in the framework of direct negotiations for the problem of Cyprus, divided since the Turkish invasion of the island in 1974.

According to a UN press release, the meeting will begin at 1000 local time (0700 GMT) in the United Nations Protected Area of Nicosia, at the Chief of Mission`s residence.

UN Secretary General`s Special Advisor on Cyprus Alexander Downer said that during their last meeting last week, the two leaders exchanged views about the meeting with the SG to take place in Geneva on July 7, as well as various aspects of governance and power sharing, including the treaty making capacity of the federal government in a united Cyprus and the capacity of the state to make international agreements.
