An armed robbery took place shortly before 10am at a branch of the Greek Cooperative Savings bank in Mesogi.
The gunman, covering his face with his shirt, brandished a pistol and grabbed the money employees were counting at the time and fled.
Near the village cemetery some cheques and cash were recovered.
The bank robber, who spoke English, is thought to be non-Cypriot.
