Cyprus’ alternative forms of tourism benefited to a great extent from the PGA European Golf Tour – Cyprus Open 2020, which was held on the island. The tournament took place from October 29 to November 1, 2020, at the fields of the Aphrodite Hills resort in Paphos.

According to an announcement by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, this major sporting event attracted the biggest names of professional Golf players in the world. Specifically, 105 of the top players in the world rankings from 27 different countries, visited Cyprus and participated in the tournament.

In addition, many of the international Media, such as Sky Sports, covered the event, something that contributes a lot to the tourist promotion of Cyprus, it is added. In particular, live broadcasts were made to a potential audience of 735 million in 47 countries.

The organization in Cyprus of such important tournaments of this scope, hugely contributes to the development of alternative forms of tourism and is part of the National Tourism Strategy 2030, which the Ministry of Tourism implements, despite the difficulties imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
