Haringey Council is marking Independents’ Day UK 4th July, a chance to support and promote all the amazing independent retail businesses in their borough.

Independent businesses are at the heart of our local communities and we will be showcasing some of Haringey’s entrepreneurs.

In Bruce Grove, Tottenham, there will be a celebration of all things local. The Tottenham Traders’ Partnership will be running a safe-distance family-friendly, happy shopper event from 11am to 7pm, with stilt walkers and children’s entertainers, alongside an Etsy market.

Holcombe Market will also be open throughout the day with special discounts available on certain products and services.

We will be sharing stories of Haringey’s independent businesses on our social media accounts.

If you are an independent retailer or shopping with your favourite independent retailer, use the hashtag #HaringeyIndieDay and let everyone know what you are up to.

Check out just a little of what’s on offer right here in Haringey:

Cllr Gideon Bull, Cabinet Member for Local Investment and Economic Growth, said:

Independent retailers are the heart and soul of Haringey and I’m thrilled to support them on Independents’ Day and all year round. Keeping money within the local economy is a key target for this administration and I’m really proud of our Community Wealth Building approach, working to create an economy rooted in the community, with local business at its heart.

Haringey has some outstanding independent retailers and I would encourage everyone to show them some love this weekend and shop local. You’ll find some truly unique items on offer – it’s good for shoppers, good for retailers, and good for our borough.

Independents’ Day is one of the business events Haringey is marking this year. Last weekend we became the first local authority to mark Black Pound Day, and we will be marking Business Women’s Day in September, Global Entrepreneurship Week in November and Small Business Saturday in December.

This year Haringey launched its Business Pledge, aiming to create a safe environment for local businesses and their customers, recognising the unique character of our diverse high streets.

Our Opportunity Investment Fund launched in Tottenham is now open to Wood Green-based businesses too, and offers loans to small and medium sized enterprises that are seeking to grow, while the Haringey Entrepreneurship Development Scheme makes available business support, mentorship and advice to budding entrepreneurs.

Last year, Haringey agreed a Community Wealth Building approach, aiming to create an economy rooted in the community, with local business at its heart.
