Christmas is coming and with the holiday season almost upon us, it’s a great time to celebrate the wonderful small businesses that are thriving in Haringey.

On Saturday 7 December there will be events across the borough highlighting local business success, with activities planned in Wood Green and Tottenham.

The Wood Green BID (Business Improvement District) group has created a guide of local small businesses which will be handed out to residents on the day. The BID is also hosting a number of other activities including street entertainment, face painting, treasure hunt and giveaways. Meanwhile creative workspace Blue House Yard will host an open stall, offering street food and showcasing their products.

The day also sees the return of the Tottenham Winter Festival, from 11am to 6pm on Tottenham Green. It’ll be a small business Christmas on the green, with live music and performances, festive workshops, fairground rides, Santa’s grotto, Tottenham Green Market and the big Christmas lights switch-on, all supported by the Tottenham Traders Partnership.

Small Business Saturday is a nationwide day recognising the country’s small and medium-sized enterprises and encouraging consumers to shop locally and support the businesses in their communities. Read more about it here:

In October, Haringey agreed its Community Wealth Building approach, aiming to create a locally-rooted economy, with support for community business and encouragement for entrepreneurship. More information can be found on our website here:

Peter O’Brien, Assistant Director for Regeneration and Economic Development, said:

Small Business Saturday is an exciting opportunity every year for us to recognise all the great smaller firms and companies operating in Haringey. Small businesses are the lifeblood of the local economy and I would encourage everyone to use the day to visit the wonderful independent businesses on our high streets.
