KOPA League kicked off for season 2019/20 last Sunday the League now consists of eleven clubs as a result of the oldest club in our community KLN and Achna withdrawing.
The format of the league for the coming season is one division.
The teams playing in the league this season are Anorthosis, Pantel, New Salamis U23’s, Panathinaikos, Olympia, Cinar, Apoel, Armmenian Youth, Komi Kebir, Akanthou and Omonia.
Olympia got off to a good start beating Cinar 10-1 but forgetting the score it was not an easy game for Steve Cinotti,s team especially at the beginning. For the first twenty minutes the game was even and both teams had chances to score. In the end Olympia with their new influx of young players they showed that the fitness and new found enthusiasm played a big part in the end to give them a massive win. Goalscorers for Olympia were Dimitri and Elias four each, Yemi and Ricky.
Last year’s Champions Anorthosis and already this season’s frontrunners and favourites for this season’s championship. gave it all and beat Pantel 13-1 their scorers were Andre 5, Adem Ali 4, and Dimitri.
Apoel were in the goals too beating Armenian Youth 5-0 with their goals coming from hat trick hero Dimitri Frangeskides and one each from Kyriacos Kyriacou and Harry Christodoulou.
New Salamis U23’s under the management of Chris Andreou and Harry Charalambous.got off to a good start beating Panathinaikos 6-2 but it began as a pretty even game in fact Panathinaikos gave them a good game and that it was 3-2 at one stage but Panathinaikos faded away. New Salamis goals came from Tom Boxer 3, Ryan Hervel, Deniz Mehmet and George Luttaya. Panathinaikos goals came from John Efstathiou and Zach Urribari.
Akanthou who finished second from bottom last season in the second division surprised everyone by beating Komi Kebir 1-0 with their goal coming in the 55thminute from Vangeli.
