There were plenty of goals and fine performances as the many teams of community grassroots club Omonia Youth FC, sponsored by PIA Financial Group and Philip Ross Solicitors, continued their start to the grassroots youth football season.

Mario Yiasemi’s Under 13 Gold lost 6-5 in a game where they only had 10 players. Even though the Under 13 Gold went 1-0 down after the opposition’s first attack of the game, any thoughts that this would be a one-sided match were quickly dispelled as the boys made their parents and coach very proud. The boys showed a fantastic positive attitude and even at 5-2 down they managed to get itback to 5-5 with the oppisition’s winning goal coming in the last five minutes. Dhiren scored a hat-trick with Muzzammil getting the other two goals. Man of the Match was Ibrahim.

Barrinton Dutton’s Under 16 Green had a straightforward league win, taking all three points thanks to goals from Julian (2), Louis O and Nicholas for a 4-1 win. Sami was named Man of the Match.

Alex Christofi and Serkan Nihat’s Under 13 White drew 1-1 with an opposition who came off a thumping 16-0 win last week. The Under 13 White played one of our best games last Sunday as they controlled the game and probably deserved to take all three point. It was a great game to watch with some great team play. Kaya got the goal with Harry P named Man of the Match.

Nick Georgiou and Dino Savva’s Under 18 Gold got off to a bad start and never really recovered. Having conceded three goals in the opening 10 minutes the boys did got back into the game and were competitive but injuries and lack of fitness did not help as they lost 4-1. Peter Michael scored a superb long rang shot into the top corner with Styli Chrysostomou named Man of the Match.

Savva Zavros and David Poncia’s Under 14 Gold also got off to a slow start and conceded twice in the opening 10 minutes but the boys showed tremendous resilience, determination and ambition to score five times and limit their opponents to one more goals as they won 5-3 to take their place in the next round of the cup. Ky (2), Kaian (2) and Jonno got the goals with the whole team deservedly named Man of the Match

Zeno Vryonides and Vas Simou’s Under 12 Green came up against a team two divisions higher in the cup and lost 7-4. It was a great game and even having lost their goalkeeper in the first half due to injury it was testament to their togetherness of the boys that they continued to play and battle until the end with passion and fight. Both coaches were rightly proud of the team who were all named Man of the Match. Michael got all four goals.

Robert Protei and George Constantinou’s Under 12 Gold won 7-1 in the Cup. It was another very solid performance from the boys; very disciplined and playing some good football. Man of the Match was Pablo Kalamaras for his 5 goals.

Harry Theodorou and George Sammoutis’ Under 15 Silver won 8-0 I the Junior Challenge Cup. Coming off a 10-2 win against the same team they played last week, the coaches mixed things up to try and make the game as challenging as possible, playing their goalkeeper up front and most of the other players in their least favoured positions. It was a really positive all round display by the entire team. Goals from Viktor (2), Saif, Marco, Mehmet, Kyri, Oscar and Joe. Oscar was named Man of the Match.

Mike Petrou and Kyri Haili’s Under 16 White lost 4-2. Plagued with injuries from the start leaving only 9 fit players it was credit to the team they kept the score within two.

Chris Gregoriou’s Under 18 White returned to winning ways after getting thumped last week. Two training sessions in between made a huge difference in both performance and fitness giving the, a comfortable 2-0 win. Goals were scored by Gabby Alan and Chris Yiannitsarou. Man of the Match was Salvotore Marziano who made two excellent saves in the first half to keep a clean sheet.

Mario Demetriou, Johnny Othona and Elvis Leon’s Under 13 Green only had 11 players and conceded 4 goals before half time in a 5-2 defeat. The boys picked up in the 2nd half with the whole team showing a great attitude. Goals from Nat and Alex with Jacob named Man of the Match.

Michael Pieri’s Under 15 White lost 5-3 to a very good team and it was a case of what might have been after a mistake-ridden performance. Going in a half time drawing 1-1, the opposition quickly capitalised on sloppy play and went 4-1 up but there was enough determination and desire from enough players to make a game of it and the Under 15 White dragged it back to 3-4. A really bad error at the back led to the final goal against one of the title favourites. Noel Allen scored a hat-trick and he along with Thomas Georgiou were named Man of the Match.

Kyri Georgiou’s Under 18 Green lost 6-3 in the league in what was described as a poor performance. Sabri was named Man of the Match for his hat-trick.
