Police have charged Bradley Edwards, 34, for the murder of Ioli Hadjilyra, 26, whose body was found dumped in a north Brisbane Park last week.

Edwards was arrested on the corner of Flix Street and Lutwyche Roade in Lutwyche at noon on Tuesday after members of the public alerted the police.

He was charged with murder and appeared at Brisbane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning. The matter was briefly mentioned and was adjourned for a mention again on 8 October.

Edwards did not appear in court.

Ms Hadjilyra’s body was found last Wednesday by council workers conducting routine maintenance underneath the rail lines at Kalinga Park. Parts of her garments had been removed and her body was found to have “unexplained bruises and bleeding”, and police could not rule out that she may have been sexually assaulted.

Analysis of the CCTV footage from the park where the 26-year-old’s body was found shows the man believed to be the murderer at several locations, behaving suspiciously and carrying a bag, which is thought may have belonged to Ioli.An Australian-Cypriot dual citizen and talented artist, Ms Hadjilyra’s sketches were found scattered near her body. Attempts had been made to disguise her body.
