Young people in Haringey were celebrating on Thursday as they received their A-Level and BTEC results.

There were a range of inspiring stories from across the borough, with all our young people doing themselves and the borough proud.

Haringey Sixth Form College Principal Russ Lawrence said he would be “celebrating hard” after another great year and added: “A journey for an A-Level student moving from a D to a B grade is every bit as impressive as a straight A student, as is the same relative journey for all our BTEC students… we are rightly proud of all students’ achievements.”

In Muswell Hill, Fortismere School pupils achieved some outstanding results, with one in five of their students attaining at least three As, while 71% of their exam results were graded B or above.

Fortismere Co-Heads Jo Davey & Zoe Judge said: “This success comes at the end of two years of incredible hard work from our students, who have once again demonstrated they are committed, aspirational and ambitious. We are delighted that they will be leaving school on such a high.”

Meanwhile, at Wood Green’s St Thomas More Catholic School, student Maya Maciurzynska was thrilled with her three A*s in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics.

St Thomas More’s Head of Sixth Form, Dean Saunders, said: “We have such a wonderful student body at St Thomas More who work extremely hard, often within extremely challenging social circumstances. To see their achievements and the university offers for the students to continue their studies is amazing.”

Cllr Zena Brabazon, the Deputy Leader of Haringey Council and Cabinet Member for Children and Families, was at Haringey Sixth Form College on results day.

She said: “I want to say a big well done to all of our schoolchildren who sat their exams this summer – we’ve seen some brilliant achievements inside the classroom and out. Our schoolchildren have put in a lot of effort to achieve these results during a stressful time in their young lives and that shouldn’t be downplayed or forgotten about, however they may have fared. A pupil who received a C grade, for example, may have worked just as hard as one who got an A or A*. I’m proud that we have so many fantastic schools, pupils, teachers and staff – you are a credit to our borough. Whether it is through academic success, sport, music or other achievements, Haringey is proud of every single one of our young people. I wish you all the very best and well done once again.”

Highgate Wood had 58% of their pupils’ exam results graded A*-B and their A*-C grades were up 6% (84%) on 2018.

Head Patrick Cozier said: “We are proud of our students who have achieved these excellent and well-deserved results as a consequence of their dedication and hard work. These results are also a reward for our staff who have supported our students so brilliantly along the way.”

Meanwhile students at Ada, the National College for Digital Skills, achieved their best results to date, with a quarter getting the top A*-A grades, 37% receiving A*-B and an incredible 100% passing their rigorous computer science qualification.

At Alexandra Park School, 87% of pupils got the A*-C grades and 75% of Hornsey Sixth Form College’s BTEC students achieved Distinctions.

The London Academy of Excellence Tottenham had their inaugural group of students sitting their A-Levels. Pupil Luqman Liaquat will be the first in his family to go to university after he won a place at Imperial College London to study Computing.
