The death of a man whose body was found in a wheelie bin in Islington was the result of a drug overdose.

Police were called to Tollington Road, Islington, shortly before 16:00hrs on Saturday, 11 May to reports of a man’s body found in a wheelie bin.

The deceased male was formally identified as Italian national, 23-year-old Erik San-Filippo. His next of kin were notified.

An initial post-mortem examination proved inconclusive. However, further testing found the cause of death to be a drug overdose.

Gerardo Rossi, 52, (09.11.66) of Tollington Road, N7 was arrested on Thursday, 16 May and charged on the same day with this offence with preventing the lawful and decent burial of a dead body.

He is remanded in custody and is due to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court for trial on 28 October.
