Detectives in Enfield are renewing their appeal for urgent information to trace a violent absconder from a Mental Health Unit.

The public are advised not to approach Aaron Moore, 31 (08.09.87) as he is considered as extremely dangerous. He has now been missing for two weeks.

Moore escaped on Thursday, 21 June at approximately 16:00 Hrs from outside of North Middlesex Hospital in Enfield. He was being escorted by three staff members and wearing handcuffs when he was able to flee. He ran off in the direction of the A406.

Officers have previously released CCTV which shows his escape from outside North Middlesex Hospital A & E. At 15:57 Hrs a white people carrier from the psychiatric is parked outside the main entrance front doors of the hospital. The three security staff alight the vehicle together with the absconder. As they are walking towards the entrance doors the suspect suddenly darts away from staff and runs at pace across the carpark and in the opposite direction of the hospital. One of the staff members run partially across the carpark after him but then stop before returning to their original position.

He is described as a light skinned black man, around 6ft tall and of large/heavy build. He has a beard which is described as ‘scruffy’.

Moore is a paranoid schizophrenic – with a personality disorder – who has a history of violence. He also suffers from diabetes. He has previously mentioned fleeing to Jamaica. He is also a heavy cannabis user which increases his risk of psychosis and unpredictable behaviour.

He has demonstrated his violence in the past when he seriously assaulted a Doctor responsible for his care.

There is also CCTV released of a sighting which was on Friday, 22 June. At 09:19hrs, he made a large cash withdrawal at the Nationwide Building Society, N17. Further examination of this footage reveals that he was wearing a black puffa-style jacket with a hood, a grey hooded top with white drawstrings underneath the jacket and a black baseball cap with a white logo on it; he was also carrying a black Adidas rucksack with the logo in the middle. It would appear that he had secreted a driving licence and debit card in his underwear.

Detective Inspector Paul Ridley, from North Area CID is leading the hunt, he said: “Despite extensive enquiries we have still not been able to locate Moore. The risk to the public is acute and he is extremely dangerous, more so every day that elapses without taking his vital medication.

The investigation team have received calls from several members of the public of potential sightings which I am thankful for. There has been a very strong sighting by a member of the public on Thursday 27 June at approximately 13:30 Hrs in Staines, Surrey where a female was approached and asked for a cigarette. This man claimed that he was ‘on the run from a mental health institute’ before making off. The witness stated that he matched the description of the photograph of Moore released in the media.

Moore is likely to be using public transport and I specifically appeal to passengers & commuters who may have seen him. Despite his claims that he wished to flee the country, I have no evidence to corroborate that and firmly believe that he is still in this country. He may be using different hotels to evade capture or adopting a transient lifestyle.”

I maintain that any person I find assisting this individual throughout the course of my enquiry will be arrested and prosecuted. If he is being harboured and you know where then call us, anonymously or through Crimestoppers, if you don’t wish to provide your details.

If you see this man, I re-enforce my previous warnings, do not approach or challenge him, but dial 999 immediately and officers will provide an emergency response to the call.
