A colourful exhibition inspired by America’s magnificent beaches, dazzling skylines and charming street scenes is now open until Saturday 22nd July at Lauderdale House in Highgate.

Emma is a self-taught artist from North London. Painting mostly using oils, her works include bright Cityscapes and peaceful street, combining elements of pop art and landscape painting.

After Studying Spanish at university and then spending years working in banking, Emma admired the architecture and skyline of Canary Wharf and began painting again.

In September 2013 she had her first solo show in London, followed by 6 more solo exhibitions from 2013-2018. She has also exhibited in several group shows including the Society of Women Artists, The NOA at the Royal College of Arts and the ING discerning eye exhibition in the Mall Galleries. Emma also had one painting (The Pink Apple) shortlisted for the Royal Academy summer exhibition this summer.

This exhibition is inspired by travels to Las Vegas, California, Miami and New York. The subjects of the paintings include sandy beaches, retro ice cream vans, and tropical palm trees. Emma takes out the people and cars, as she likes the quiet of early morning and beauty of the empty streets and architecture, experimenting with new ideas, mediums and techniques including gilding, collage, fine layers of resin, and big blobs of colours to fine mists of luminous spray.

Inspiration also comes from several artists including Jasper Johns, Peter Blake as well and Wassily Kandinsky, for his theories on the effects art has on emotions. The works are refreshing happy paintings that hope to uplift the audience.

Lauderdale House is located at Waterlow Park, Highgate, London N6 5HG. Exhibition opening times: Monday-Friday 11am-4pm and Sunday 11am -4 pm (closed Saturdays).
