The KOPA League Challenge Cup final between first division champions Anorthosis and second division Champions Panathinaikos started on a sombre note but a memorial one in remembering Kyriacos Spyrou, (Spiris) the Chairman of New Salamis who sadly passed away on Monday with a one minute silence.

The match kicked off with the underdogs Panathinaikos creating two very good opportunities.and trying very hard to unsettle favourites Anorthosis.

But with 18 minutes gone Anorthosis took a 1-0 lead through Adem Ali who placed the ball into the back of the net.

From there on both teams sat back with the occasional break and then a push from either side for the winner or equaliser.

Anorthosis increased the lead to 2-0 with ten minutes to go via a Panathinaikos Goalkeeper error on trying to save a shot pushed the ball into the back of the net a late flurry from Panathinaikos was too late to stop the  Cup going to the blues side Anorthosis and now leave them on  their own path to do the KOPA League treble of winning the KOPA League Championship, Challenge Cup and Divisional Cup.

The First Division Cup final between Anorthosis and Olympia will be taking place next Thursday 30th May 2019 at 7.45pm at Haringey Borough stadium.
