We’ve got chills, the Grease movies are multiplying. Yes, Grease fans will soon get to see another chapter of Danny and Sandy’s love story as a prequel entitled Summer Loving is in development at Paramount for the big screen.

The film will delve deeper into the summer fling between Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson, described in the song Summer Nights. In the song, the characters, originally played by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, recount to their friends how they first met and fell in love.

As any Grease fan can tell you (with accompanying choreography), the teenagers met at the beach, the summer before their senior year. Little did they know, they would soon be attending the same high school!

Big Fish and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory writer John August has signed on to write the script.

The original Grease movie was released in 1978 following a 1971 musical. The far less popular Grease 2 followed in 1982, and Grease: Live debuted in 2016, winning five Emmy Awards.

Paramount has not announced a release date or cast for Summer Loving, but I’d assume they’ll be tapping Newton-John and Travolta for cameo roles… or maybe even cast them as Danny and Sandy’s respective parents!
