Kyriakos who played for New Salamis in Cyprus said that Banks was a fantastic goalkeeper and gentleman – a legend. In his eyes, the world’s greatest goalkeeper.

Stoke City’s Jack Butland  wore a special plain green jersey as the club celebrated the life and career of their legendary ex-England goalkeeper Gordon Banks against Aston Villa .

World Cup-winner Banks died at the age of 81.

Fellow England international Butland wore the strip, which has no badge, sponsor or name.

It recreated the one Banks wore as Stoke beat Chelsea in the 1972 League Cup final, their only major trophy.

Banks won 73 England caps and was a vital part of the side that won the 1966 World Cup. He played for Stoke for six years from 1967.

Leicester City paid tribute to legendary goalkeeper Gordon Banks before their clash with Crystal Palace at the King Power Stadium.

The City players wore black armbands following the death of Banks, who as a Leicester played in two FA Cup finals, won the 1964 League Cup and triumphed at the World Cup with England in 1966.

There was also a video tribute involving club ambassador Alan Birchenall, former star Peter Shilton, who succeeded Banks as City’s number one, and current keeper

World Cup final teammates of England goalkeeper Gordon Banks  attended his funeral, including hat-trick hero Sir Geoff Hurst whose eulogy described him as a “superstar”.

Hundreds of people lined the streets of Stoke-on-Trent as a cortege made its way around the city.

The coffin was also driven to the home of Banks’s former club Stoke City where hundreds more chanted and applauded.

Jack and Sir Bobby Charlton were among mourners at a later church service.

The brothers – who won the World Cup with Banks in 1966 – attended Stoke Minster where Wembley teammate Hurst paid tribute.

Hurst said it was a “very sad day”, describing his former teammate as the “greatest goalkeeper we’ve had”.
