Local sporting heroes were recognised at this year’s Haringey Celebrating Sport Awards, Haringey Council’s annual ceremony to celebrate and reward the sporting achievements of outstanding teams, individuals, coaches and volunteers in the borough.

This year’s event was held on March 1 at Tottenham Green Leisure Centre, with support from Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, Fusion Lifestyle and Haringey Sports Development Trust.

Tottenham Hotspur Club Ambassador and ex-England international Ledley King attended the event and helped to present the prizes, which were awarded to nominees in eight categories, voted upon by a panel representing the range of sports in Haringey.

Deputy Mayor Sheila Peacock was also in attendance to celebrate the achievements of local young people in Haringey.

It has been an impressive year of sporting feats in Haringey, with several local teams and clubs achieving London-wide and even national success.

Councillor Kaushika Amin, Cabinet Member for Civic Services, said:

“We are thrilled to play our part in rewarding Haringey’s sporting stars and celebrate the achievements of these talented individuals. Sport can transform people’s lives and these awards highlight the impressive work that is being carried out across the borough.”

Ex-Spurs captain King said:

“It’s important that we support events such as these and recognise the achievements of people in the Club’s local community. I would like to congratulate the winners on their accomplishments and wish them every success for the future.”
