Police were called at approximately 20:30hrs on Friday, 8 February, to a report of a robbery on Oxford Street near the junction with Duke Street, W1.

Officers attended and spoke with the male victim. He informed officers that he had been threatened with an unknown object which was pressed against his side. The object was not seen and the man was not injured. He reported that his coat and watch had been stolen.

Due to the information provided by the victim, specialist firearms officers attended the scene. British Transport Police officers also responded alongside Met colleagues.

It was quickly established that the suspects had made off by entering Bond Street Underground Station.

Five males were arrested inside the underground station on suspicion of robbery. The males – aged between 16 and 20 years – remain in police custody. No weapons have been recovered.

The station was temporarily closed whilst officers dealt with the incident. It has now reopened.

Enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing.
