Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades will be in New York from 22 -29 September in the context of the 73rd United Nations General Assembly, which he is expected to address and will have, among others, a meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

On the basis of a provisional list of speakers, President Anastasiades is expected to address the General Assembly in the morning session of Thursday, 27 September.

The theme of the general debate, this year will be “Making the United Nations Relevant to All People: Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Peaceful, Equitable and Sustainable Societies.”

On Monday, September 24, the General Assembly is also set to hold a high-level plenary meeting on global peace in honour of the centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela.

In the meantime, President Anastasiades will depart from Cyprus on Wednesday, 19 September to take part at an Informal European Council which is hosted by Austria, in Salzburg, government sources have told CNA.

He is expected to travel to New York from there.

The date of the meeting the Cyprus President will have with the UN Secretary General has yet to be set.

Before his visit to the United States, President Anastasiades is also expected to be in communication with Greece`s Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
