Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a house conversion in High Road, Wood Green.

Part of the ground and first floor were damaged by fire. One elderly man and one elderly woman were rescued by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus from the first floor. They were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service crews and taken to hospital.

Eight further people left the property before the Brigade arrived.

The Brigade was called at 2333 and the fire was under control at 0048. Fire crews from Southgate, Hornsey, and Tottenham fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
