Two men were arrested after officers were called to reports of men carrying knives in flats in Southbury House, Waltham Cross.

The men made off after officers arrived and after a short pursuit were arrested in Trinity Lane, Waltham Cross. Officers searching the area recovered a lock knife and a large machete.

Hassan Khan, aged 19, from Park Lane, Waltham Cross has been charged with possession of an offensive weapons and an 18 year old man from Edmonton has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and has been released under investigation.

Chief Inspector from Broxbourne Ian Butler said: “We have seen more knives being carried in some parts of the borough over the last two years and I have made this issue my top priority. We have been successful in arresting many of those involved in this kind of crime over recent months and we have been taking a very proactive approach to catching those carrying knives and preventing offending before it happens.

“We have also been working closely with the local council In response to an increase in knife related crime in Broxbourne, and with funding from the Police and Crime Commissioner we are looking at changing the way we tackle knife crime and related issues by working to raise awareness and educate young people about the dangers of carrying knives.”
