Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers were called to a fire on a farm on The Ridgeway in Enfield this morning.

Part of the top layer of two thousand tonnes of mulching was damaged by fire. A mechanical mulcher was also completely destroyed in the blaze.

Station Manager Karl Smith was at the scene, he said: “A passing motorist called the Brigade. Fortunately, no one was on site at the time of the blaze and therefore no injuries are reported. Crews worked hard to put the fire out and remained on site throughout the night to ensure that there were no deep seated pockets of fire to ensure the blaze was completely out.”

The Brigade was called at 0528 and the incident was under control by 0824. Fire crews from Barnet, Enfield, Mill Hill, Southgate and Edmonton fire stations were at the scene. One fire engine from Hertfordshire fire and rescue service was also at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
