A man has been jailed for the manslaughter of Albertini (Albie) Jones (below) in Edmonton last December.

Muktar Jammeh, 22 (22.04.96) of Tigris Close, Edmonton was sentenced to 14 years and nine months imprisonment at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, 12 June.

Having previously been charged with Albie’s murder, Jammeh entered a plea for manslaughter on Monday, 11 June, which was accepted by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) to Strimon Close N9 at 18:24hrs on 16 December 2017, following reports of a stabbing.

Officers and LAS attended and found 22 year-old Albie Jones suffering from a critical stab injury. He was taken to hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

A post-mortem examination took place on 18 December 2017, at Haringey Mortuary and found the cause of death to be a single stab wound to the chest.

The court heard how immediately after the attack, Albie walked into his family home and told his brother “Muktar stabbed me”.

Following contact with Jammeh’s family, arrangements were made for him to hand himself into police. He was arrested on suspicion of murder on 17 December 2017 and charged the following day.

During sentencing, Albie’s sister read out a victim impact statement on behalf of the family in which she said: “Albie was a son, cousin, uncle, best friend and little brother. He had a wonderful infectious smile that would light up an entire room. He has left a huge hole in our family that will never be filled. We will never get over the loss of Albie, but will learn to live with the heavy burden of grief.”

Detective Constable Robert Button, from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “In the lead up to Albie’s murder, his close friendship with Jammeh deteriorated which sadly culminated in this tragic incident.

“The circumstances surrounding this case should act as an illustration to those who carry knives that using them can have tragic consequences even if there is no intention to kill.

“The lives of two families, who were once very close, will never be the same again. I would like to pay tribute to the dignity that Albie’s family have shown throughout this ordeal. Hopefully now they will be able to grieve for Albie in peace.

“This is a tragic loss of a young person’s life and I hope today’s sentencing highlights the Met’s commitment to clamping down on violence of this nature.”
