Elementary rules of political ethics state that when the opposition poses a question to the government, the latter is has to reply. Yesterday, AKEL asked the government to state what the government’s position was and whether Mr. Anastasiades said anything at all to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom regarding the use of the British bases in the attacks carried out against Syria.

Although we haven’t received any reply whatsoever, judging from the government’s unfortunate positions expressed yesterday that – pretty much – because the bases are military they are entitled to do what they want, we draw the conclusion that not only did Mr. Anastasiades say nothing to the British Prime Minister, but on the contrary, the government seemingly identifies itself with those who believe that military might can prevail over International Law and ethics in politics. This is particularly tragic as it comes from the government of semi-occupied Cyprus.

We again call for a massive participation in today’s protest event organized by the Cyprus Peace Council outside the US Embassy.
