Apollon of Limassol and APOEL of Nicosia had great victories over Anorthosis and AEK  for Match Day 7 of the second phase of the Cyprus League. The two teams will face each other next Sunday in GSP Stadium for Match Day 8, in a game that will determine in a certain degree the champions of the season.

Results of Match Day 7: Group A’: AEK-APOEL 1-3, Apollon-Anorthosis 3-1, Omonia-AEL 1-2. Group B’: Nea Salamina-Doxa 4-1, Ermis-Paphos 0-1.

Standings: Group A’: Apollon 79, APOEL 77, Anorthosis 65, AEK 62, AEL 57, Omonia 44. Group B’: Doxa 43, Ermis 42, Nea Salamina 39, Alki 38, Paphos 35, Olympiakos 23 .

Apollon who look favourites to win the League got off to a not so good start against Anorthosis with a pretty even first half with either team not able to break each other down.

But the second half came to life with Apollon striker Bosnian born Croatian striker Anton Maglica scored a hat trick, Anorthosis lone goal came from Nigerian Emmanuel  Igiebor.

Apoel in second place and the current champions will not let their throne go easily and they had a good 3-0 away win against AEK and keeping the pressure on Apollon. 

Ex Chelsea Portuguese player Nuno Morais opened the scoring with a penalty  Hungarian international Roland Sallai made it 2-0 straight after the break.

AEK reduced the score with Joan Tomas the Celta Vigo Spanish player but a goal in the 78th minute from Ghayas Zahid a Norwegian of Spanish descent with a sot from close range ensured Apoel came away with a 3-1 win.

Omonia suffered another loss this time against Limassol team AEL but they led from the 18th minute with a Matt Derbyshire goal but a late flurry from AEL with two goals in the 86th and added time coming from Roamn and La France killed Omonia.

In Group B , New Salamis beat  Doxa Katokopias 4-1 with their goals coming from, Nicolaou, Kosti, Eloundou and Karo Doxa’s lone goal came from Sadik.  Pafos FC had a good 1-0 away win against Ermis Aradippou, scorer Sikorski.

Olympiakos lost to Alki Oroklini 3-0 meaning they are relegated to the second division with Ethnikos Achnas. Alkis goals came from Charalambous and Malfleury 2.
