Cyprus will take part in the 21st Commonwealth Games, which will be held on Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, between 4 and 15 April with 47 athletes, 26 men and 21 women.

The Cypriot flag will be carried by skeet shooting athlete Giorgos Achilleos, who is the only one to have won a gold medal in Glasgow, while since 2006 he has won four gold and one silver medals.

Cyprus Olympic Committee Director General Olga Piperidou Chrysaphy will head the Cypriot mission to the Commonwealth Games.

Addressing a press conference Cyprus Olympic Committee President Dinos Michaelides said that the Commonwealth Games are one of the most important events Cyprus takes part in, adding that this will be Cyprus’ 10th participation and the third time in Australia for the Commonwealth Games.

“Cyprus will be represented once more in a great sports event, the second in size after the Olympic Games, where 70 Commonwealth countries and 6,600 take part,” he said.
