The number of tourists from Britain visiting Cyprus is increasing, according to the British High Commissioner Matthew Kidd, who hosted on Wednesday a reception for the Cyprus Safer Tourism Platform, at his residence in Nicosia.

According to an announcement by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, the platform was established in 2015 by the organization, in close cooperation with the British High Commission, now numbering over 40 partners.

Kidd referred to increasing numbers of tourists visiting the island this year, as well as to the importance of safety for tourists.

Xenia Loizides, the Chair of the Cyprus Safer Tourism Platform, thanked the British High Commission for starting the initiative and underlined Cyprus’ positive image in safety matters. She assured of CTO’s commitment to continue with the platform’s effective work.

The main achievements by the various working groups were also presented during the event, focusing among other issues on regulating access to alcohol, safety in swimming areas, health and treatment issues, road accidents and international cooperation.

More actions are planned in the future, including the development of a mobile application for the safety of tourists, covering Cyprus, Greece and Malta. Seminars regarding the sale of alcohol and professional taxi drivers will take place in Spring.
