Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu are very likely to hold a meeting on Friday, in New York, sources say.

The two FMs are both set to have separate meetings on Thursday and Friday with new UN Secretary General António Guterres.

Çavuşoğlu is expected to be received by Guterres at 1500 hours local time (1900 hrs GMT) at UN headquarters. UN SG`s Specia Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide will also be present at the meeting.

Kotzias arrives in New York in the evening and is set to meet with Guterres at 1600 hours local time (2000 hrs GMT) on Friday.

President Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci have decided that the UN-sponsored talks will continue in Geneva, Switzerland where between the 9th and 11th of January the two sides will discuss the remaining issues of the Cyprus problem and present maps concerning territorial adjustments. On January 12 a conference on Cyprus will be convened with the participation of the guarantor powers as well as other relevant parties as needed.

In statements yesterday he said that it has been agreed that Guterres will inform UN Security Council members of the conference to take place on January 12 in Geneva with a clear reference that if they so wish they can be present, as well as that Guterres will invite the EU to be present at the conference.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied its northern third. President Anastasiades and Mustafa Akinci have been engaged in UN-backed talks since May 2015 with a view to reunite the island under a federal roof.
