A man who escaped from HMP Pentonville on Monday, 7 November has been arrested.

Matthew Baker was arrested at an address in Ilford on Wednesday night, 9 November. He has been taken to a north London police station where he remains in custody.

Two other people – a woman aged 21 [a] and a man aged 33 [b] – were also arrested (no further details at this time). They were taken to an east London police station where they also remain in custody.

Officers from Islington Borough are continuing to investigate, supported by expertise and resources from the Met’s Flying Squad and Homicide and Major Crime Command.

They are renewing appeals for information to trace James Anthony Whitlock who remains outstanding.

Whitlock, 31, (4.01.85) was on remand having been charged with conspiracy to burgle, namely 19 offences of theft from ATMs at various locations in the south-east of England between December 2015 and August 2016.

He is described as a white man of slim build. He has the word ‘Tracy’ tattooed on his torso. It is not known what clothing he had on when he escaped from the prison.

Police continue to reiterate previous advice to the public not to approach Whitlock and to call 999 if they see him.
