FA Sunday Cup

Second Round

NLO 2 Omonia 3

Omonia travelled to Ruislip to face a strong and experienced team in NLO FC.

With many Omonia regulars absent for one reason or another, it was important for The Greens to start well and that is exactly what they did.

After 20 minutes of absorbing pressure and trying to catch NLO on the counter, Omonia took the lead after a slick move, Leon Fisher freed Jordan Jackson on the wing and he cut infield and unleashed a shot which the NLO keeper could only parry to Ioannis Vavouxakis to put them one up.

The rest of the half was comfortable for Omonia and Ioannis and Riccardo both had efforts tipped onto the woodwork by the opposition’s goalkeeper.

Just before the interval, a controversial penalty decision allowed NLO to level the scores. 1-1 at HT.

Omonia came out very strongly in the second half and after some excellent football, a wonderful team goal was scored by Riccardo Gioia on 55 minutes.

5 minutes later Riccardo again finished superbly after some excellent work from Alex Anderson.

Omonia then defended very well for the rest of the game and had numerous opportunities to score on the counter, however the NLO keeper made some very good saves to keep the score down.

NLO pulled one back with virtually the last kick of the game. Final score 3-2.

It means Omonia join New Salamis in the third round of the FA Sunday Cup.
