A moped rider left critically injured following a collision in North Finchley has died.

The rider, a 16-year-old male, was at a north London hospital following the collision with a car on Buxted Road, N12 on Thursday, 17 November – he died in hospital on Friday, 25 November. Next of kin have been informed.

An inquest will be opened at Barnet Coroner’s Court in due course.

Detectives from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command continue to appeal for witnesses and information.

On Thursday, 17 November police were called at around 17:50hrs to Buxted Road, at the junction with Ashurst Road, N12, following reports of a car and a moped in collision.

Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended.

The driver and occupants of a black Nissan Pixo abandoned the car and left the scene of the collision on foot via Ashurst Road and Woodhouse Lane.

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the occupants of the black Nissan leaving the scene.

Later on Thursday, 17 November, a 22-year-old man attended a north London police station at approximately 23:00hrs. He was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving with no licence, no insurance and failing to stop at the scene of a collision. He released on bail until a date in January 2017 pending further enquiries.
