The leader of Haringey Council, Claire Kober, has issued an appeal to residents to help house Syrian refugee families at Local Housing Allowance rates. On 15th November 2016 Haringey’s cabinet announced a plan to resettle up to 10 Syrian refugee families but Haringey must identify available affordable properties before any Syrian refugee families can be placed in the borough.

 Government support for accommodating Syrian refugees is limited to Local Housing Allowance and Haringey is looking for residents who are willing to help by accepting a rate which is likely to be less than what they would get from renting their property privately.

 Claire Kober said, “I am proud that Haringey has pledged to resettle up to 10 Syrian refugee families and we are determined to help refugee families rebuild their lives away from the  war in Syria. I know that people across Haringey have been shocked at the suffering in Syria and will want to do their bit to help. If you have an empty property please consider renting it to a Syrian refugee family. Your generosity could make a huge difference to their lives.”
