The reunification of Cyprus is primarily a matter of the two communities on the island, Valdis Dombrovskis, the EU Commission Vice President said on Monday, adding the EU is ready to assist in the context of its competencies.

Dodrovskis` remarks came as Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci embarked on Monday on a new intensive round on talks in Mont Pelerin, Switzerland, in what has been deemed as a critical juncture for the UN-sponsored negotiations.

Referring to the Cyprus economy, he said that “Cyprus has returned to a solid economic growth and we will stress that the prudent fiscal policy should continue,” Dombrovski said before the Eurogroup meeting earlier today.
