Cypriot tennis player from Larnaca, Petros Chrysochos, has been crowned the ITA All-American Championship, champion by beating Canadian Hugo de Feo in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) in the finals.

 

The 20-year-old Wake Forest University student  finished the tournament with his fifth straight-sets victory over a six-match span

 

According to the Cyprus Tennis Federation, Chrysochos had ranked eighth in the competition.

 

It is estimated that there is a total of 2,500 tennis players in US universities which are covered by some kind of sports scholarship while the main draw is made up of 64 players in which Chrysochos managed to enter.

 

The importance of his victory is that it gives him the opportunity to play in the qualifying rounds of the US Open in the autumn of 2017.

 

Chrysochos will be taking part in the Knoxville Challenger 31/10 & Charlotteville Challenger 07/11 as part of his obligations towards Wake Forest, while he has also been informed by the Cyprus Tennis Federation that he has been included in the Cyprus Davis Cup team to face Turkey on 3-5 February 2017.
