That meant that the English champion (now 11-0) would be given the chance to box for the vacant WBC International crown against Paul Economides, who won against Elvis Guillen over six rounds just last weekend in Liverpool, live on Sky Sports, at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham, as part of the undercard to Frankie Gavin’s clash against Sam Eggington.
Coming in at late notice didn’t faze Economides, from Chester, in the early stages of the contest as he took the early rounds quite comfortably.At the half-way stage, the Dave Coldwell-managed man was ahead, but Davis switched up the pace and, despite both men being cut, won the fight on work rate down the stretch.
Economides slipped to 20-6 (4 KOs) in defeat as the three ringside judges handed ‘Showtime’ the victory by margins of 96 points to 94 on all cards.
