Anorthosis Famagusta continued their problematic season on Wednesday after needing extra time to see off second division opponents Othellos Athienou in the first round of the Cyprus Coca-Cola Cup.

The first round of the Cyprus Coca-Cola Cup got underway this week with stuttering Anorthosis beating Othellos 2-1 while Doxa defeated Ermis Aradippou 3-2 in the only all-first division tie.

Airam had given Anorthosis – who have announced Ronny Levy as their new coach following the sacking of Spanish boss Antonio Puche – but former APOEL midfielder Christos Djamas equalised soon after for Gustavo Manduca’s side.

Konstantino Kastanas turned past his own keeper in the opening minutes of extra time and Anorthosis held on for the remainder of the game to seal their place in the next round.

The final whistle was met with a chorus of jeers from the home fans.

Elsewhere, Ermis were knocked out of the Cup by Doxa in a game which saw angry Ermis chairman Loucas Fanieros tell reporters that the team will docked money from their wages over the performance whilst others will be sacked.

AEK, AEZ and Aris Limassol all picked up easy wins.
