The positions of the President of the Republic and the Turkish Cypriot leader that there is no question of an interim agreement on the Cyprus problem are considered as positive.

First, because they put an end to yet another unnecessary internal confrontation within the Greek Cypriot community, given that certain circles and forces have created an issue that doesn’t exist out of nothing. Second, and more importantly, because the long-standing position that our goal remains a comprehensive, agreed and lasting solution of the Cyprus problem is reconfirmed.

With this opportunity, AKEL stresses the need for self-restraint and responsibility by all, if indeed they are conscious of the critical phase the Cyprus problem is currently going through.
