Giorgos Vasiliou from Cyprus took top individual honors at the most recent CMAS World Spearfishing Championship in Greece.

The competition was held from September 15th – 19th off the shores of the Greek island of Syros, with conditions only allowing for two days of actual diving and hunting.

Greek spearfishermen Giannis Sideris andGerasimos Kavvadias took second and third place, respectively, with Italians Dario Maccioni andGiacomo De Mola, Tahitian Steve Tetuanui, Croatian Slaven Cubric, Tunisian Saad Sami, American Justin Lee and New Zealander David Mullins rounding out the top ten. A total of 78 competitors registered for the event.

In the country competition, Greece came out on top, with Italy second, Cyprus third, Croatia fourth,Tahiti fifth, Spain sixth, USA seventh, New Zealandeighth, Tunisia ninth, and Ukraine tenth. A total of 25 nations were represented at the world championship.
