The Open University of Cyprus (OUC) and the Presidential Commissioner Fotis Fotiou signed on Wednesday a Memorandum of Understanding, aiming to offer online courses to overseas Cypriots.

On behalf of the University, the MoU was signed by Costas Christou, Chairman of the Governing Board.

The MoU signed by the two sides aims to support Cypriots living overseas and in particular young people, by offering distance learning courses in the fields of language, history and culture.

Fotiou said during the signing of the MoU that ties with the Cypriot diaspora are being enhanced through actions provided in the context of a national strategy, which has been prepared in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other services.

The Presidential Commissioner said that a new programme, titled “Introduction to the History of Cyprus” will commence during the new academic year, along with Greek languages online learning courses and traineeship opportunities in Cyprus.

Christou noted on his part that during a difficult time for Cyprus, the OUC is putting its expertise, personnel and facilities at the disposal of Cypriot society and Cypriots living overseas.

He said finally that the role of the OUC is gaining in importance, following the aim set by the government to turn Cyprus into a regional training and research center
