Doctors assured that there is no cause for concern over President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades` health after being admitted to hospital earlier Saturday with symptoms of gastroenteritis.

Attending physician Dr Savvas Kadis, speaking to reporters ystrday afternoon in the presence of Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides said that “at noon today the President was admitted to Aretaieio Hospital with symptoms of gastroenteritis which he suffered during the past few days”. As symptoms persisted, it was decided that the President be admitted to hospital for supportive therapy, he added.

Meanwhile, Government Spokesman Christodoulides said that “the meeting scheduled for the 23 of June with the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community has been postponed and depending on the recommendations of the doctors we will decide accordingly with regard to the European Council conference in Brussels, which begins on Thursday,” and which the President is scheduled to attend.

In response to a question, the Government Spokesman said that the President continues to exercise his duties from the hospital.

UNFICYP announced that “in view of the hospitalization of Greek Cypriot Leader Nicos Anas tasiades , the meeting between Mr. Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot Leader Derviş Eroğlu which was to take place on Monday 23 rd June at the United Nations Good Offices Mission in Cyprus has been postponed.”

It further said that “Greek Cypriot negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis and Turkish Cypriot negotiator Kudret Özersay expect to reschedule the date at their own meeting on 25 June at the United Nations Protected Area.
