Two Romanians aged 27 and 36 were arrested yesterday on suspicion of having raped and brutally beaten a 37 year old mother of two.

The Polish woman was found semi-conscious on the Fasoula-Apsiou road by a passer-by early on Wednesday morning.

Limassol CID head Ioannis Soteriades said police were led to the two suspects after evaluating evidence that the victim was spotted at a bar. She was later seen getting into the car of the 27 year old suspect, a permanent resident in Cyprus for the past two years.

Acting on a tip off as to the colour and type of the vehicle, police located and stopped the car around midday yesterday. Police found evidence strengthening suspicions of the two men’s involvement in the crime.

The suspect was taken to Limassol police headquarters for questioning where he named the 36 year old suspect as responsible for the crime.

Police arrested the second man who denied the allegations and said they were both drunk and had both committed the crime.

Both suspects are expected to appear in court today to be remanded in custody
