Turnpike Lane improvement works underway

We’re excited to announce that construction and delivery of the first phase of works to improve Turnpike Lane have started!

Current phase:

– Waldegrave Road Junction: underway

– Burghley Road: starting April 2025

– Vernon Road: starting May 2025

These improvements will create a continuous crossing along the northern side of Turnpike Lane, enhancing walkability and accessibility, especially for people with disabilities and those with pushchairs

Street greenery will be added at Burghley and Waldegrave Road junctions putting the green in Turnpike Lane

Cycle parking will be installed at Vernon and Waldegrave Road junctions to support active travel

A unique visual identity and wayfinding system has been designed for Turnpike Lane. This will be integrated into the public realm improvements through engraved artwork set into granite slabs at key locations, guiding pedestrians and reinforcing Turnpike Lane’s distinctive character.

Turnpike Lane is a key placemaking area in Shaping Wood Green, our co-created vision for the future of Wood Green. We’re committed to delivering this vision in collaboration with local people and with help from our partners in the years ahead.
