Two charged following theft of car in Hatfield

Two people have been charged in connection with the theft of a car in Hatfield.

Police received a call at 8am on Friday 10 January, reporting that a Mini Countryman had been stolen from a driveway in Elm Drive.

Officers searched for the vehicle and spotted it in Welham Green at around 9am. It came to a stop in Millwards, Hatfield, where two people were arrested.

Christopher Coulton, aged 39, of no fixed abode, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, driving with an expired provisional licence and driving without insurance. He was also charged with fraud by false representation in connection with a bank card that was stolen from the vehicle.

Katrina Watkinson, aged 35, of Woods Avenue in Hatfield, was charged with being carried in a motor vehicle taken without the owner’s consent.

The pair will appear at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on 10 June 2025.

Welwyn Hatfield Chief Inspector Pete Frost said: “Our officers quickly tracked down the stolen vehicle and made arrests. We were pleased to get the vehicle back to the victim and I hope this news reassures residents that we take crimes of this nature very seriously.”
