Eriκ Lamela scored twice at Toumba on Sunday, including arguably the best goal of the season so far, to give AEK a precious win at PAOK and keep it joint second, in leader Olympiakos’ orbit.
The big match of the weekend in the Super League saw host PAOK go down 2-1 to AEK and drop 10 points off the pace. Lamela scored with a left-foot volley ηισ spectacular opener on the 37th, and added another early in the second half, before Abdul Baba Rahman pulled one back for PAOK.
Olympiakos left it late, but won 1-0 at Levadiakos to maintain its four-point lead at the top of the table. Teenager Christos Mouzakitis was on target for the Reds.
The most memorable game of this round was the one between Panathinaikos and OFI on Saturday, which the Greens eventually won 3-2, although the Cretans led 2-0 at half time with goals from Giannis Theodosoulakis and Taxi Fountas. A stellar second half by Panathinaikos turned things around with strikes by Facundo Pellistri, Fotis Ioannidis and Giorgos Vagiannidis, while its fans honored the memory of former captain Mimis Domazos.
Aris has edged closer to the top four with a 1-0 win at Athens Kallithea, Atromitos defeated 10-man Panetolikos 1-0 away and Panserraikos shared a 1-1 draw with Volos.
On Monday Asteras Tripolis hosts bottom team Lamia.
Olympiakos is on 47 points, Panathinaikos and AEK have 43, PAOK stayed on 37, Aris climbed to 34 and Asteras is on 31 with a game in hand.
