Flat fire – Maida Vale

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a block of flats on Lauderdale Road in Maida Vale.

Over half of a five roomed flat on the first floor of the building was destroyed by fire. Fortunately a family of four self evacuated before the Brigade arrived.

Sub Officer Izzy Ryan was at the scene, she said: “On arrival there were flames coming out of the scaffolding around the flat that was on fire, as well as heavy smoke logging.

“Thankfully smoke alarms were sounding and the residents had evacuated before we arrived on scene.

“Two adults were treated on scene by our crews and the London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation.”

The Brigade’s 999 Control officer received the first call alerting them to the fire at 1824 and the incident was over by 1958. Fire crews from Paddington, North Kensington and West Hampstead fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
