Panathinaikos came from behind to beat PAOK in Athens and climb to the top of the table at least for 24 hours, that is until hitherto leader Olympiakos visits Panetolikos on Monday.
The first big game of 2025 took place behind closed doors, due to a stadium ban, but even so the Greens managed to beat champion PAOK 2-1 with a goal on the 90th minute.
PAOK went ahead after just 85 seconds at the Olympic Stadium of Athens with Andrija Zivkovic opening the score, 10 minutes before Fotis Ioannidis found an equalizer.
The Thessaloniki team was left with 10 men due to the second yellow card shown to Abdul Baba Rahman on the hour mark and paid for it on the last minute with Azzedine Ounahi winning the game for Panathinaikos.
AEK returned to victories with an emphatic 4-2 at Volos. Jens Jonsson, Levi Garcia, Anthony Martial and Frantzdy Pierrot were on target for AEK, while Mark Koszta and Pedro Conde scored for the hosts.
Aris suffered its second home reverse of the season, as OFI won 2-0 at the “Kleanthis Vikelidis” Stadium thanks to goals by Borja Gonzalez and Andrew Jung. Aris finished the game with nine players.
In other weekend games, Kallithea scored its first win, downing Lamia 2-1, Levadiakos saw off Panserraikos 1-0 and Asteras Tripolis won 1-0 at Atromitos.Olympiacos entered 2025 with the right hand as in the match with the “curtain fell” of the 17th matchday in the Super League, Panaitolikos was imposed 2-0 in Agrinio.
With this victory, the “red and whites” returned to the top of the standings, where Panathinaikos had temporarily climbed, after their victory in the derby against PAOK.Manchester United winger Antony has emerged as a loan target for Olympiacos, according to Mail Sport. The Brazilian forward has yet to make a league start this season and has primarily featured as a substitute under the stewardship of Ruben Amorim.
Antony, who was signed for a staggering £85.5 million in 2022 as one of Erik ten Hag’s first acquisitions from Ajax, has not found his footing at Old Trafford thus far. With Amorim instituting changes within the United camp, European clubs have begun to notice Antony’s precarious position.
The club believes it’s prudent to loan him out this January to facilitate more playing time and help him regain his confidence, we’ll pursue that route together. Otherwise, Antony remains dedicated to reclaiming his spot and showcasing his talents under the new coach, Ruben Amorim.”Currently topping their domestic league, Greek outfit Olympiacos is keen to bolster their squad with the addition of the former Ajax star come January.
