Cyprus President, Nikos Christodoulides, and his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, discussed the situation in Syria and energy in their private meeting in Cairo on Wednesday, CNA has learnt.

Sources told CNA that the crisis in Syria is creating the impetus for countries in the region, such as Cyprus, Greece, Egypt, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, to send a common message on the situation in Syria at the European and international levels.

It was also discussed that there will be announcements in the first quarter of 2025, regarding the commercialisation of the Cronos gas reserve, managed by ENI energy company, the same sources said.

Cyprus’ Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2026 was discussed on the occasion of the release of €4 billion in aid for migration that Egypt expects from the EU, the same sources said, noting that €1 billion has been given to Egypt by the EU so far.

President Christodoulides is in Cairo for the 10th Trilateral Cyprus-Greece-Egypt Summit and the 2nd Cyprus-Egypt Intergovernmental Summit.
