Leisure provision in Haringey returns under the direct management of the council on Tuesday 1 October.

Tottenham Green, Park Road and Broadwater Farm Community Centre will all come back under the direct control of the council and form part of Haringey’s ambitious plans to provide a comprehensive Active Wellbeing offer.

The work has started immediately with refurbishment being carried out to deep clean and perform some essential maintenance works during the six-day handover period so that they are well-maintained upon re-opening on Monday 7 October.

Leader Cllr Peray Ahmet and our Chief Executive Andy Donald have been at Tottenham Green to welcome fresh faces to the fold and usher in a brand new era for leisure in our borough.

The message was clear as well – the council wants to work with the respective centres’ memberships and the wider Haringey community at large to provide the highest quality provision for them now and in the future.

Cllr Ahmet said:

I was delighted to speak to our leisure centre staff members as we mark a fresh start for this provision in our borough.

It’s a really exciting time as we bring these three facilities back under the direct control of the council and – whether you’re an active, lapsed or new member – you should see a distinct difference in the standard of leisure provision in Haringey from now on.

We want to cater our leisure provision to meet the needs and requirements of our diverse communities and residents here in Haringey. That’s fundamentally important to us as we begin this journey together.

With that in mind, we’ll be engaging with our residents further in the coming months on the types of activities and services they would like provided in Haringey’s leisure centres.

A phased approach will be adopted to the works that are necessary at Tottenham Green, Park Road and Broadwater Farm, with refurbishments to the three sites continuing for the next six months as part of a significant investment programme approved in December 2023.
