Stoptober is back, calling on smokers in England to join the 2.5 million others who have made attempts to quit during this successful campaign.

One in five adults in Haringey smoke, and smoking remains the main cause of preventable illness and premature death in our borough.

Here in Haringey, our partners at One You Haringey are hosting information stalls in the borough, where smokers can stop by to get help quitting.

These are taking place in Haringey throughout October and can be found at the following locations:

  • Tuesday 1 October, 10.30am-2.30pm, Whittington Hospital (first floor foyer)
  • Saturday 5 October, 12pm-4pm, One You Haringey Wellbeing event, Tottenham Community Sports Centre
  • Saturday 19 October, 11am-6pm, Black Communities Healthy Living & Lifestyle Fair, Chestnuts community Centre

Councillor Lucia das Neves, Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care & Wellbeing, said:

“Quitting smoking can have a huge impact on your health and wellbeing, and will increase the chance of living a healthier life for longer.

“It is also a great way to keep more of your own money in your pocket and feel better in your everyday life. Give it a go this month and visit one of our support stalls to speak to an expert.”

The council is working more widely on tobacco control in the borough by promoting smoke-free environments, supporting the Tobacco and Vapes Bill in Parliament, creating local School Superzones initiatives, and working with schools to provide vaping and e-cigarette guidance. The council’s trading standards team are tackling elicit trade locally and seizes illicit items where possible.

Stoptober offers a range of free quitting tools including the NHS Quit Smoking app, daily email support, Facebook support group, information about quitting smoking with a vape and expert support from local stop smoking services.
